Nestled in the heart of Richmond’s vibrant Carytown at 1912 W Cary St, Shyndigz is a dessert lover’s dream come true. Specializing in decadent sweets and artisanal treats, this charming dessert restaurant invites guests to indulge in a carefully curated menu that combines classic comfort flavors with creative twists. Whether you’re craving a luscious slice of cake or a hand-crafted pastry, Shyndigz offers an irresistible selection that delights both the palate and the eye.
The menu is a treasure trove for dessert aficionados. The Oatmeal Cream Pies stand out as a signature treat—two buttery, toffee-infused oatmeal cookies sandwiched with velvety cream cheese icing create a harmonious blend of crunchy and creamy textures. Equally tempting is their Key Lime Pie, bursting with tart, tangy brightness balanced by a buttery, crumbly crust. For those who savor richness, the Crème Brûlée offers a luscious French vanilla bean custard crowned with a perfectly caramelized sugar crust that cracks delightfully under each spoon. The Swamp Bar, a peanut butter chip bar, and the Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar—evoking the nostalgic pleasure of a giant Reese’s cup—add layers of indulgence for those craving a nutty finish.
Cake lovers will find a personal paradise here. From gluten-free offerings like the moist and flavorful Tres Leches and vegan-friendly Mini Chocolate Bundt Cake to richly frosted favorites such as the Spotted Cow chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting, the bakery provides diverse options to suit all tastes and dietary needs. Seasonal cakes and the Cake Du Jour rotate regularly, keeping every visit exciting and fresh.
The atmosphere at Shyndigz perfectly complements the culinary experience. Its warm, welcoming interior, enhanced by charming touches such as bubbles at the entrance and an eclectic mix of décor and gift items, invites guests to linger and explore. Despite the restaurant’s popularity often creating a bustling scene, the energy is vibrant and inviting rather than overwhelming. Limited indoor seating is supplemented by cozy outdoor tables, ideal for sunny Richmond afternoons. The shop's split counter ordering system can take a moment to navigate; however, the friendly staff and the enticing aroma of freshly baked goods quickly draw customers in.
Beyond desserts, Shyndigz doubles as a delightful boutique offering unique gift items for all ages—perfect for baby showers, housewarmings, or simply treating yourself to something special. Customers rave about the warm hospitality and the joyful ambiance. Wendy Brooks praises it as a “must-visit” in Carytown, highlighting both the delicious treats and the wonderful gift selection. Regular patrons like Linda Moyer enjoy the weekly “Try It Tuesdays,” an innovative way for guests to sample new items before deciding on their purchases. Troy Smith’s admiration for the Cookie Butter and Spotted Cow Cakes underscores the bakery’s dedication to quality and flavor, while L A’s love of multiple signature items reflects the consistency that keeps locals coming back.
While some visitors like Allie find the ordering flow and seating a bit challenging during busy times, the overall experience remains overwhelmingly positive, fueled by the irresistible desserts and the unique charm that truly sets Shyndigz apart in Richmond's culinary scene.
In essence, Shyndigz is more than a dessert spot—it’s a joyous sensory journey blending comfort, creativity, and community spirit. This gem is a must visit when you're in Carytown. My husband and I decided to stop in and pick up some treats to take home with us from a brief stay in Richmond. Inside not only did we find some delectable treats, but they have a wonderful eclectic mix of gifts for children and adults. So if you're looking for a baby shower gift or a housewarming gift this would be a fantastic place to check out.
Come here for the cake! We tried the Cookie Butter Cake and the Sootted Cow Cake. Both were delicious with hefty portion of frosting. We got the small sized slice and they were so filling we couldn’t eat the whole thing on our own! Additionally, the store is cute and offers other items like plants and decor. The market also prepares cocktails however we did not try any.
We are constant customers for Shyndigz. Love there try it Tuesdays where they provide a free sample of a text menu item for you to review. They have a large selection of deserts as well as wines, snacks, and gift options. Love the new location and the interior is adorable. There's usually a line but it moves quickly. There are so many things to check out while waiting though and then decided which of the many deserts to select. Fun place and a nice stop for an evening out.
This is a place I want to like but still find myself not enjoying. For people unfamiliar with the space they have a split counter/ ordering situation. I am not entirely sure what can and cannot be ordered at each counter. There is limited indoor seating, which is supplemented by outdoor seating. The times I've been here it's been very busy and there is no clear paths or directions, which makes it confusing and overwhelming visitor experience. Their cakes are really good and the portion sizes are huge, but there is also a price tag associated with this. For our Americano and our Irish coffee it was $20. It was another $20 for a meal. The slice of cake I want to say was around $7 . I've only had their cakes, which are pretty good, but according to the friends I was with the food looked really good but was only okay. I want to like this place but there are just some improvements that could be made to make visitor experience better.
LOVE this place!! My go to bakery in Richmond. I’ve had their Oatmeal Cream Pie, Shyndigz cookie, Salted Chocolate Caramel Cake, Key Lime Cake, Key Lime Pie, German Chocolate Cake, and the Vanilla Funetti Cake. All delicious! My personal favs are the oatmeal cream pies, shyndigz cookies, and the salted chocolate caramel cake. Love the bubbles blown at the entrance and all the cuteness inside! Had a yummy espresso before picking up a birthday cake 12/6/25. They have something for everyone, our fur babies included! You can even purchase frozen cookies and pies to bake at home. Can’t wait to try everything on the menu! Oh and the best customer service every time I visit, so thank you to the friendly staff that keeps this place going and customers like me returning!
This charming dessert has such Richmond vibes. The line was insane when we arrived so we knew it would be something special. The interior had a cool little shop to browse while waiting to place your order. Might have to go back and do some shopping! We ordered the Butterfinger Pie and the Fresh Fruit Cake. Oh man, they were heavenly. Highly recommend- though it was so hard to choose! There were a lot of options. While the service and food was great, it was very squished when it came to seating. There really weren't many tables you could sit down and enjoy your treat at. I know they're working with the space they have, but it's definitely a gamble on seating. Will be back to try more!
This place has so much character. The ambiance is cute and quirky, and gives a comfortable feeling all at the same time. The deserts are all amazing in both look and taste, and they even have a "bake at home" kit in case you want to try a hand at home making some of their deserts. A little on the pricey side, but we'll worth the price tag. I can't wait to try the oatmeal cream pies once we make them, and maybe even get the chance to have one in restaurant next time. Definitely putting this on my list for favorite dessert spots in RVA.
Everything you heard about this place is pretty true. Tasty desserts and interesting decor, combining food/dessert/drinks and even in door trailer. Only reason I gave it less than 4 stars is the price. Sure with everything in this world suffering from inflation, I still think a tiny piece of brownie should not cost over $7.
